In 2020, Ava was diagnosed with ALL (Acute lymphoblastic leukemia). Ava battled leukemia for over 2 years receiving intense chemotherapy among so many other medications before she relapsed. At this point, we were beyond devasted but never lost hope. Ava received a bone marrow transplant with Dad as her donor. We were in the hospital primarily PICU for 9 long months. During that time, Ava was cancer free, but she was still fighting for her life. Chemotherapy, radiation, receiving more medications ever thought possible, and the bone marrow transplant was too hard on her body. The time came for us to make the inconceivable decision. Ava was so tired and in agonizing pain. She said she was ready to rest. That it was time. We are so grateful to be able to have the chance to say goodbye and to be at her side surrounded by so many who love Ava. During our last days with Ava, she smiled, laughed, hugged, and told everyone that she loved them. Ava went to be with the Lord on February 10, 2024, at the age of 16.
